Video/Pic: Famous singer held up plastic Trump head after assassination attempt

A video and pictures shared by a Green Day fan club show lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong holding a plastic mask that resembled the head of former President Donald Trump while performing at a concert in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. Armstrong quickly received criticism on social media for seemingly joking about political violence just two weeks after the assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

According to The Daily Caller, the video and photos were captured at Green Day’s Sunday concert at Washington D.C.’s Nationals Park on Sunday and shared on social media by the fan club Green Day Inc.

The video and photos show Armstrong holding up a plastic mask resembling the former president’s head. The word “idiot” can clearly be seen on the forehead of the Trump mask.

Conservative commentator Jack Posobiec shared a picture of Armstrong holding the Trump head mask on X, formerly Twitter, pointing out the questionable timing of the graphic display. Posobiec wrote, “Billie Joe Armstrong holds up a Donald Trump head at a Green Day concert in DC just 2 weeks after Donald Trump was shot in the head at a rally.”

The video and photos of the Green Day singer holding a mask of Trump’s head led to widespread criticism on social media. One user wrote, “He’s so desperate to stay relevant. It’s not 1995 anymore, bud.” Another social media user tweeted, “Funny how they use to represent the outcasts and rebels of society and now they are mouth pieces for the very institutions they sang against. How sad.” Meanwhile, a third social media user warned, “This is a dog whistle for other would be assassins to try again.”

Armstrong’s display at Green Day’s D.C. concert comes after Hollywood star Jack Black and Tenacious D singer Kyle Gass received major backlash for joking about the assassination attempt against Trump. Black later announced the cancellation of the latest Tenacious D tour after Gass made a birthday wish on stage, saying, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
