Former President Donald Trump won more than enough delegates during Tuesday’s primary election contests to clinch the 2024 Republican nomination, setting the stage for a rematch with President Joe Biden in the November presidential election.
The Associated Press projected that based on Trump’s Tuesday wins in Georgia, Washington, Mississippi, and Hawaii, the former president surpassed the 1,215 delegate requirement needed to secure the Republican National Committee’s nomination as the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential candidate. Trump, who is now the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, has won 1,255 delegates in the GOP primary race.
“It is my great honor to be representing the Republican Party as its Presidential Nominee,” Trump wrote in a statement on Truth Social. “Our Party is UNITED and STRONG, and fully understands that we are running against the Worst, Most Incompetent, Corrupt, and Destructive President in the History of the United States.”
Pointing to some of the issues plaguing the United States, Trump warned that millions of illegal immigrants are continuing to invade the United States and claimed that many of the people illegally entering the United States are coming from prisons and mental institutions. In regard to the economy, Trump claimed inflation and high interest rates are “choking our great middle class” and impacting all Americans.

“We are now, under Crooked Joe Biden, a Third World Nation, which uses the Injustice System to go after his political opponent, ME! But fear not, we will not fail, we will take back our once great Country, put AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE,” Trump added. “November 5th will go down as the most important day in the history of our Country! GOD BLESS AMERICA.”
In addition to Trump clinching the Republican Party’s nomination on Tuesday, The Associated Press projected that Biden secured more than enough delegates to reach the 1,968 delegates required by the Democratic National Committee. Biden, who is now the Democrat Party’s presumptive nominee, has won 2,107 delegates in the Democratic primary race.
While Trump described Tuesday as a “really great day of victory” in a YouTube message to his supporters, he warned the country is “in serious trouble.”
“Now we have to get back to work because we have the worst president in the history of our country,” Trump said. He added, “We’re not going to take time to celebrate. We’ll celebrate in eight months when the election is over.”
In an urgent call to voters ahead of the November election, Trump said, “This vote is going to be the most important vote you’ve ever cast.”
