Never-before-seen footage showed Hollywood star Alec Baldwin rushing film crew on the set of “Rust” before he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming in October 2021. Attorneys revealed the video of Baldwin during the criminal trial of the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges for Hutchins death.
According to Good Morning America, outtake footage shows that immediately after director Joel Souza calls “cut,” Baldwin began shouting, “One more! One more! One more! Right away!”
Baldwin repeatedly waves a gun as he speaks.
Gutierrez-Reed is shown slightly off-camera reloading the gun as Baldwin calls for another take prior to the fatal shooting. David Halls, first assistant director, previously testified that he witnessed Gutierrez-Reed hand the gun to Baldwin following a rudimentary safety check where she opened a latch on the gun to reveal several blank rounds.
Moments after the gun was given to Baldwin, Hutchins was fatally shot, and Joel Souza, the director, suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
According to ABC News, Souza, who had been standing just behind Hutchins, testified that the set became “very chaotic,” with a “distressed” Gutierrez-Reed “apologizing” to him. He testified that he didn’t understand what had happened, even arguing with medical workers that it was impossible he had been shot.
Gutierrez-Reed faces additional charges related to evidence tampering in the case. Prosecutors filed an amended complaint against her in late 2023, alleging she engaged in heavy drinking and marijuana use in the evenings during the production of the movie.
Prosecutors further allege Gutierrez-Reed passed narcotics to another set member on the day of the shooting with the intent of avoiding detection in the investigation of the incident. Gutierrez-Reed, 26, has pled not guilty to all charges. She faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
Sarah Zachry, prop master, testified that she was dissatisfied with Gutierrez-Reed’s performance and had discussed firing her from the movie, according to NBC News. Zachry stated she was unsure how live rounds had been brought onto the set. Following the shooting, Zachry stated she had checked the gun and removed other live rounds from the chamber, throwing them away in a “reactionary” action.
Baldwin, 65, is expected to face his own trial in the shooting incident in July. Baldwin has repeatedly denied any responsibility for the shooting, stating the gun misfired and he did not pull the trigger that resulted in a live round being discharged.
