Video: Vivek drops out of 2024 presidential race, makes surprise endorsement

Vivek Ramaswamy, a successful entrepreneur, announced the official suspension of his 2024 presidential campaign Monday after placing fourth in the Iowa Caucuses.

In a video posted on X by The Daily Caller, Ramaswamy can be heard informing his Iowa supporters that he had decided to suspend his campaign.

“As of this movement we are going to suspend this presidential campaign,” Vivek said. “There is no path forward for me to be president absent things that we don’t want to see happen in this country.”

According to Real Clear Politics, polls showed Ramaswamy with 4% of Republican support across the nation and roughly 6.8% in Iowa. While Ramaswamy secured approximately 7.7% of the vote in the Iowa Caucuses, he trailed far behind former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.

In addition to announcing the suspension of his campaign Monday night, Ramaswamy announced his endorsement for president.

“Tonight I called Donald Trump to … congratulate him on his victory and now moving forward he will have my full endorsement for the presidency and I think we are doing the right thing for this country,” Ramaswamy told his supporters. “So I am going to ask you to follow me in taking our America First movement to the next level.”

In a subsequent post on X, Ramaswamy explained that his “entire campaign” was centered around “speaking the TRUTH.”

“We did not achieve our goal tonight & we need an America-First patriot in the White House. The people spoke loud & clear about who they want,” Ramaswamy added. “Tonight I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Donald J. Trump and will do everything I can to make sure he is the next U.S. President. I am enormously proud of this team, this movement, and our country.”

In response to Ramaswamy’s endorsement, Trump shared the former Republican candidate’s statement on Truth Social, adding, “Thank you Vivek, a Great Honor!”

Following the Iowa Caucuses, the next Republican primary contest will take place next week in New Hampshire.
