GOP states pledge to support Texas in border standoff with Biden

A growing number of Republican governors and lawmakers have pledged to “stand with Texas” amid the state’s ongoing feud with President Joe Biden’s administration over the security of the southern border and illegal immigration.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), Gov. Spencer Cox (R-Utah), Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-Okla.), Gov. Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), Gov. Bill Lee (R-Tenn.), Gov. Jim Pillen (R-Neb.), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.), Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-Va.), Gov. Brian Kemp (R-Ga.), and Gov. Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.) have each issued statements in support of Texas defending its own border despite pressure from the Biden administration to remove razor wire that has been installed at the southern border to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing into the state.

Sharing a video of the Texas National Guard on social media, Stitt announced, “Oklahoma stands with Texas.”

“The border is a disaster that continues to spiral out of control, both in terms of people and deadly fentanyl traffic. This is not a partisan issue,” Cox wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “This is a national security issue. This is a common sense issue. This is an American issue. Utah thanks Texas and Gov. Abbott for stepping up where the Biden Administration has failed over and over again.”

Announcing that Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) has the “full support” of Georgia, Kemp said the southern border is “in crisis” due to the Biden administration refusing to “do their job.”

The growing support from Republican governors across the nation came as Abbott released a statement Wednesday slamming the Biden administration’s failure to protect Texas against an invasion of illegal immigrants at the southern border.

The Texas governor claimed the Lone Star State has the “constitutional authority” to defend itself against invasion since the federal government has “broken the compact between the United States and the States.”

In addition to the support of Republican governors, Texas has also received support from lawmakers such as Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), and Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.). While Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-Iowa) has not yet issued a pledge to stand with Texas, the governor released a statement against the Biden administration, saying, “The Biden Administration has all the wrong priorities!”

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has also expressed his support for Texas, saying, “I stand with Governor Abbott. The House will do everything in its power to back him up. The next step: holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable.”
