Video: Democrat group’s sex scene ad blasts Ohio GOP

Progress Action Fund, a Democrat lobbying group, recently blasted a state ballot measure supported by Republicans in Ohio with a sex scene political advertisement.

In a video advertisement that will air this Wednesday, Progress Action Fund is encouraging voters in Ohio to vote against State Issue 1.

If passed, the proposal, which will be voted on Aug. 8, would “require that any proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ohio receive the approval of at least 60% of eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment.”

According to The Wrap, progressives have argued that Ohio’s State Issue 1 is an attempt by Republican legislators to prevent voters from making abortion legal in Ohio during the November election by requiring 60% approval from eligible voters for state amendments.

Urging voters to “keep Republicans out of your bedroom,” the progressive lobby group’s advertisement showcases a sex scene that begins with a man and a woman kissing in a bed, both dressed only in underwear.

After making out in bed, the man can be seen reaching for a condom in order to practice “safe sex.” However, an elderly man quickly removes the condom before the man can reach it.

After the man and woman both scream at the intruder, the elderly man, who is dressed in a black suit with a red tie, says, “Sorry, you can’t use those.”

After the woman asks what the man is talking about and who he is, the elderly man explains, “I’m your Republican congressman. Now that we’re in charge, we’re banning birth control.”

In response to the man’s statement about “banning birth control,” the woman is portrayed shouting that the decision is not his to make and demands that he leave the bedroom.

However, the elderly representative says, “I won the last election. I’m not going anywhere. I’m just gonna watch and make sure you don’t do anything illegal.”

The progressive advertisement concludes with a message overlaid on the screen urging Ohio voters to “Keep Republicans out of your bedroom” by voting “no” to State Issue 1 on Aug. 8.

While progressives oppose the measure, Republican State Rep. Brian Stewart and State Sen. Rob McColley argue that State Issue 1 would protect Ohio’s constitution from “deep-pocketed, out-of-state interests. The legislators claim, “By passing Issue 1, the People will ensure constitutional changes are widely accepted and declare that Ohio’s Constitution is not for sale.”
