A building in New Haven, Connecticut, partially collapsed on Friday, leaving at least six people injured, including two critically, officials said.

New Haven Fire managed to rescue all of the victims who were trapped in the debris of the building, Connecticut Fire Photographers Assoc. tweeted.

It is unclear what caused the building, located at 188 Lafayette St near Yale University, to collapse.

“UPDATE FROM NEW HAVEN: CFPA President Glenn Duda @allhandsworkin report @NewHavenFire have successfully removed all victims trapped in the debris of the collapse. Some via a high point rescue operation. #NewHavenCollapse #NewHaven,” CT Fire Photo tweeted.

“HAPPENING NOW: CFPA President Glenn Duda @allhandsworkin is on scene of a building collapse w people trapped in #NewHaven,” the group tweeted after the collapse.

According to NBC Connecticut, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said just after 12:30 p.m. ET, part of the building’s second floor collapsed into the first floor and basement.

Nearly 40 people were working in the building when it collapsed.

In April, a worker was killed and five others were injured when a four-story parking garage collapsed in Manhattan. Authorities did not suspect foul play in the collapse of the parking structure, located in Manhattan’s financial district, Reuters reported. New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the building “completely unstable.”

“We have no reason to believe that this was anything other than a structural collapse,” City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at the time.

A worker at the structure was pronounced dead at the scene. Four were injured and taken to hospitals, and another was hurt but declined medical treatment, according to John Esposito, chief of fire operations for the New York City Fire Department.

This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
