Hundreds of left-wing demonstrators demanding gun control stormed the Tennessee state Capitol building on Thursday, pushing law enforcement and disrupting legislative proceedings while shouting, “No action! No peace!” The demonstration comes after a transgender shooter targeted a Christian school this week, killing three children and three adults.
Video shared on Twitter showed a massive crowd of left-wing protesters pushing law enforcement in an attempt to force their way into the building.
“An insurrection is currently underway at the Tennessee state Capitol building,” Greg Price wrote on Twitter along with video of the scene.
A Tennessee non-profit group called AWAKE organized the demonstration.
“AWAKE was founded 10 years ago in part to advocate for the health and safety of kids in Tennessee. The tragic shooting at Covenant School in Nashville yesterday was the 129th mass shooting in the US this year. This is and has always been unacceptable,” the group wrote on Facebook earlier this week. “We have collaborated with community organizations and individual citizens to organize a rally at the State Capitol Thursday morning. If you are looking for a way to channel your grief, anger, and confusion into action- please join us.”
Fox Nashville shared video showing a massive crowd of protesters marching outside the Tennessee Capitol Thursday morning.
On Monday, a transgender shooter attacked The Covenant School, a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee. During the attack, the shooter killed three children, all 9-years-old, and three adults. The following day, authorities released body camera footage showing how officers took down the transgender shooter.
The footage comes from the body cameras of Michael Collazo and Rex Englebert, the two MNPD officers who took down the shooter.
In one part of the footage, Officer Collazo starts running toward the gunfire after multiple shots ring out.
“Shots fired, shots fired, shots fired, move!” he says.
As Collazo and other policemen reach the end of a hallway, the transgender shooter fires several more rounds. The officers push forward toward the shooter, who was firing on officers on the ground outside a window at the time.
The footage also shows Officer Englebert leading the team of law enforcement through the building until they encounter the shooter. Englebert fires multiple shots, striking the shooter.
Collazo then moves in closer to the gunwoman and fires several more rounds while shouting, “Stop moving! Stop moving! Get your hand away from the gun! Get your hands away from the gun!”
This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
