The FBI is expected to search for classified materials in the Indiana home of former Vice President Mike Pence in the coming days, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
Pence’s legal team is now scheduling the search with the Justice Department, sources told the Journal.
The news comes a week after Pence acknowledged his team had discovered about a dozen classified documents in the home.
Pence later said he takes “full responsibility” for the mishandling of the documents and said he wasn’t aware they were there. He had previously denied taking any classified materials with him after leaving office, as reported by PBS.
The former vice president said on Fox News that “mistakes were made” when materials were accidentally shipped to his personal residence while being packed up at the end of his time in office, The Hill reported.
Pence’s classified documents were reportedly discovered during a proactive search of his home in the wake of similar scandals emerging in recent months against President Joe Biden and Pence’s one-time running mate, former President Donald Trump.
Biden and Trump are both facing special counsel investigations over their handling of classified material.
In Biden’s case, a total of about 25 to 30 documents with classified markings on them, dating to his time as a senator and vice president, have been found in a private think tank office and his home in Wilmington, Delaware, CBS News reported.
The FBI found no classified documents in a search of Biden’s Delaware beach home on Wednesday, CNN reported.
The cycles of classified document discoveries kicked off in August with the FBI’s high-profile raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. About 300 documents with classified markings have been taken from Trump since he left office, according to the Associated Press.
