“Saving Private Ryan” star Tom Hanks has launched a new coffee brand – and it’s all about the troops.
Launched in November under the name “Hanx for Our Troops,” the brand offers multiple flavors and types for all coffee drinkers, and all of the profits are going to veteran-focused non-profit organizations.
“We saw HANX as a way to support Veterans and military families, as 100% of net profit will go to organizations that have proven to be of great aid to those who have served our country,” the site quotes Hanks as saying. “Good products for good reasons.”
Two of the flavors are military-themed: the light roast “Sgt. Peppermint” and the smooth, dark roast “First Class Joe.” One other flavor has a more personal touch, but sounds no less tasty: “Tom’s Magic Morning Blend,” described as a “nostalgic malt & cocoa” mix.
The coffee is available as bags of grounds, Keurig-friendly pods, or as coffee sticks. But currently, not all flavors are available in all forms.
According to the brand’s website, these are the veteran-focused organizations getting the profits from coffee sales as of now:
- The Bob Woodruff Foundation, which provides a broad range of services to veterans and their families;
- The Headstrong Project, focused on mental health treatment;
- Hire Heroes USA, which aims to get veterans into the workforce;
- Student Veterans of America, which assists veterans through higher education.
The website has a “Band of Brands” page, which highlights “incredible businesses” run by veterans. Currently, the only one on display is Bravo Sierra, which sells body washing products and donates 5 percent of all sales to veterans.
It also has a “Stories from the Field” page, where veterans are interviewed about their service and transition to civilian life. Eleven veterans have been interviewed so far.
