Report: Shooting at Fort Stewart in GA; 1 injured

One person was injured and a suspect was arrested Monday in a shooting at the U.S. Army’s Fort Stewart post in Georgia, the base announced.

The suspect has not been identified, and the condition of the victim has not been released.

Law enforcement was dispatched at 9:57 a.m. to a reported possible shooting in the fort’s complex for the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.

That’s a gated area, separate from the main fort, where soldiers from the 2nd Brigade live and work, Stars and Stripes reported.

Law enforcement arrived seven minutes later, and emergency medical personnel arrived to treat one shooting victim, according to the base’s announcement.

The incident went public at 10:50 a.m. local time, when the base said that emergency services were on-site and a suspect was in custody after “what has been described as a shooting.”

This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
