‘Barricade’ situation at Fort Belvoir; FBI, military responding

FBI agents and military police are responding to an ongoing “barricade situation” at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

“Fort Belvoir law enforcement officials & the FBI Washington Field Office’s National Capital Response Squad responded with local law enforcement partners to a barricade situation at Fort Belvoir Sunday morning,” the base announced in a tweet shortly before 1 p.m. EST. “The situation is ongoing, & we cannot comment further at this time.”

The Army base is located in Fairfax County, Virginia, and is about 20 miles south of Washington D.C.

WUSA9 reporter Katie Kyros tweeted footage outside the Army base’s Walker Gate on Sunday morning, showing police moving on and off base. Kyros said police scanner reports indicated a man was barricaded inside his home on the base with a gun.

“Outside Walker Gate at Fort Belvoir where military police and SWAT vehicles have been coming & going, following scanner reports of a man with a gun barricaded in a home on the base,” Kyros.

Fort Belvoir said traffic into and out of the base could still pass through the Tulley, Pence and Farrar Gates.

The FBI’s Washington D.C. Field Office did not immediately respond to an American Military News request for comment.
