Veterans monument in Michigan vandalized, police seeking tips to find who did it

Authorities are investigating weekend vandalism to the Coast Guard Monument at the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township.

Oakland County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about malicious destruction of property that came in at about 9:15 a.m. Saturday. A man reported damage to the glass monument at 5236 Adams Road.

A glass panel, which cost an estimated $50,000, was shattered, deputies said. A large stone, which was presumably thrown at the panel, was found about 20 feet down the hill from the memorial.

The memorial honors six branches of the armed forces.

There was no surveillance video of the vandalism or suspects, but deputies are investigating and asking witnesses or anyone with information to call them at 248-858-4900.
