Man detained near Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence with rifle, ammunition in his car

D.C. Police detained a man near the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday on charges of carrying weapons, D.C. Police said.

The man, 31-year-old Paul Murray of San Antonio, Texas, was stopped by Secret Service agents near the Naval Observatory, the vice presidential residence, in Washington. The weapons were recovered from his car.

Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff have been staying at Blair House, some distance away, near the White House, while renovations are taking place at the vice president’s residence.

Murray was stopped following identification from a Texas intelligence bulletin, D.C. Police said. He was charged with carrying a large-capacity ammunition-feeding device, a dangerous weapon, a rifle and unregistered ammunition. He was arrested just after noon.
